NATURAL MAKEUP

One of the most ethereal looks seen during the fashion shows for any season is the natural look. Clean, dewy skin, barely-there blush, bitten lips, soft eyes: all achievable with a light hand and the right brush! To get the most natural effect, blend your foundation using the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Foundation Brush. Don’t let the name fool you… just a few dabs of foundation on your face and buff it out to an almost airbrushed look. Finish with Chanel Les Beiges powder for that natural healthy glow.

CAT EYE WITH AN ELONGATED APPROACH

When we talk about cat eyes, we think Bridget Bardot and Audrey Hepburn. Although liquid liners can be daunting, I find that you have to try a few different brands before you master your hand at the wing. For this uber feminine and mysterious makeup option, I suggest Surratt Autographique Liner 1 in Chat Noir liquid liner. The perfectly calibrated tip can give you everything from natural lash enhancing lines to movie star glam.

LASHING OUT!

Lashes are upping their game to the false lash and really making a statement this season! Think Tippie Hedren in the Alfred Hithcock’s The Birds for day-time soft yet noticeable lashes to Twiggy’s retro inspired lashy effect at night. Turn any mascara into this seasons dramatic and expressive look with Lancôme Ôscillation Powerbooster, a vitamin infused lasher primer.

BROWS: THICK BOLD AND EXPRESSIVE

Worn during the day with just a bit of Natural Brow Shaper & Hair Touch Up in Clear and filled in at night with Tom Ford Brow Sculpter for that high fashion expression.

LIPS ARE VERY BERRY OR BARELY THERE

Red lips have become a classic and berry lips have become a sort-of Neoclassic this season. Sisley Paris Phyto-Lip Twist #5 makes a berry lip wearable with its plant-based, ultra-smooth, glide-on texture. Or you can simply put your pout in the perfect nude with YSL Glossy Stain In Beige Peau #40. It’s just the right combination of gloss and stain with a lightweight texture.

METALLIC EYES

Glittery eyes were gracing all the fall runways, from just a hint on the center of the lid to a wash from lash to brow! NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow single shadows takes you from sheer finish to high impact depending if it is applied wet or dry. Another trusted option is Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow, an elegant combination of 4 shadows in a compact.

TABLE

Cake (1)

CLEMENTINE & ALMOND SYRUP CAKE

Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamini have become the talk of the town when it comes to middle eastern cuisine… I was lucky enough to meet with Sami one afternoon when having lunch at their splendid London restaurant Nopi. After a brief conversation about how deliciously amazing everything was, I told him that I thought their latest book, Jerusalem: A Cookbook, was going to be the number one cookbook in the United States. Little did either of us realize at the time, it was going to inspire almost rabid fandom!

This recipe for Clementine and Almond Syrup Cake is a perfect dessert to serve for an late summer/early fall outdoor dinner, as you can make it the day before and it only gets better with time. I substituted oranges for clementines as they are not in season yet, and used Cup4Cup Gluten Free Flour in place of all-purpose so that I could share with my neighbor who happens to be gluten free. The chocolate icing is optional. If you wish to ice the cake it is recommended to do so on the day you serve it.

DWELLING

MIDAS TOUCH

Gold, gold, gold! Wars have been fought over it. Love has been expressed with it. Gold was the first metal widely known to mankind. More importantly, Gold has been changing the landscapes of my table! Well… not actually gold, more like stainless steel brushed with 24k gold, or mid century brass, or glassware etched in gold, or gold accented napkins… this list goes on. I’ve been telling many of my tabletop clients to give it a try as an alternative to silverware. It really warms a table and goes with all different types of table finishes and materials. I briefly mentioned it last fall in my newsletter, but I was just giving you a taste. Now, I’m sharing several favorite pieces from my private archives that showcase just how beautiful, modern, and subtle gold tabletop designs can be.

1. Michael Aram Gold Feather Tray
